Healthcasts Addresses Physician Concerns over Patient Non-adherence in Diabetes Treatment
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 31, 2014 -- Healthcasts, a leading provider of physician education, released data from a study combining feedback from primary care physicians, endocrinologists, and diabetes patients, on the issues affecting current diabetes outcomes.
Physicians reported that patient adherence continues to be the single biggest challenge toward improving outcomes in diabetic patients.
While 83% of diabetes patients surveyed said they immediately fill their diabetes prescriptions, only 63% were completely adherent with their doctor’s recommendations at all times. Regarding treatment changes, 34% said that their doctor has changed their medication due to progression of their diabetes and only 38% of patients reported no change to their prescribed medication over the course of their treatment.
Although there are numerous attempts to address adherence in the marketplace digitally, Healthcasts' research indicates that only 6% of diabetic patients currently use a digital or online resource to track their condition, while the majority (62%) of patients use paper or a journal, and 35% said they use a glucose meter.
