In Celebration of Women’s History Month KALW Announces New Show, "Inflection Point" Dedicated to Telling the Stories of Women Who are Changing the Status Quo
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (PRWEB) March 03, 2015 -- In celebration of Women's History Month this March, KALW is broadcasting the first pilots of Inflection Point, a new one-hour show dedicated to telling the stories of women who are changing the status quo. Hosted by Lauren Schiller, Inflection Point premieres on KALW 91.7FM in San Francisco, March 6th at 11am. Inflection Point is also delivered to public radio stations nationally by PRX and is available online at inflectionpointradio.org and iTunes.
The first episode dives into the role of women leaders in technology, an industry in which only one in four workers are women. Interviews feature Caterina Fake, the co-founder of Flickr and founder of Findery, and Lindsey Turrentine, the Editor-in-Chief of CNET.com. In the second episode, Lauren interviews the co-founders of Revolution Foods, Kristin Richmond and Kirsten Tobey, and explores how the entrenched school lunch system can be shifted to offer all children access to healthy, delicious food. Alex Bernadotte, founder of Beyond 12 discusses how, through innovative use of data and apps, underserved students can achieve a higher college graduation rate.
“Our society is at an inflection point. With more women leading the way in business and technology than ever before, there’s no question society is poised for great change across industries, politics, academia and the arts. The question is, what will that change look like?” said Lauren Schiller, creator and host of Inflection Point. “As a pioneer in training and hiring women technicians during World War II and an acknowledged leader in progressive programming, KALW is the perfect partner for us to examine this history in the making.”
In this ongoing series, Lauren talks to the women who are changing the status quo--and finds out how they did it. With every interview, listeners will find out how women conquered the obstacles in their way and succeeded, how each of them are changing the status quo and what those changes mean to our society. Interviews will cover what it means to be a woman in power—how to embrace it, use it, and give it to others.
“KALW has had a long-standing commitment to making space on the airwaves for talented women,” says General Manager Matt Martin. “And today, our most prominent local programs, Your Call and Crosscurrents, are hosted by women with distinctive and powerful voices: Rose Aguilar and Hana Baba.”
“So when Lauren Schiller approached me about creating a show featuring conversations with leading women in a range of fields, it just made sense. There’s never been more interest in the role of women in leadership – civic, corporate, creative – and it’s vital that we learn from women who are showing the way, and ask critical questions about the yet-untapped potential of women to make change.”
Episodes premiere Friday March 6th and March 13th at 11am on KALW 91.7FM and can also be heard online at inflectionpointradio.org.
