James Gillis's New Book "Jim versus Thailand" is an Evocative Memoir of the Author's Two-Year Assignment in Southeast Asia While Serving in the U.S. Air Force
Recent release "Jim versus Thailand" from Page Publishing author James Gillis is a vivid reflection on the sights, people, and initial impressions of an impossibly exotic country to an impressionable nineteen-year-old from coastal New England.
BRADFORD, R.I., May 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- James Gillis has completed his book "Jim versus Thailand": an entertaining memoir of culture shock as a young American man navigates the joys and challenges of living overseas while stationed at an Air Force base in Thailand in the late 1960s.
The author shares, "With this short statement, I will try and give a snapshot of my life at that time, and why I wrote this book.
During my travels, I have lived for at least a year or more in many countries around the world, courtesy of the United States Air Force. The first foreign country I resided in was Thailand, which started in late 1967 to early 1969. This was the first time in my life that I flew on a sleek 707 airliner, landing halfway around the world and being floored by the culture shock.
Since that time, I have lived and worked in many foreign places, like the Middle East (Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, and other UAE countries), Europe (Germany, England, plus road trips to many other European countries), and South East Asia (Japan, China, Philippines, Wake Island, Guam, and of course, Thailand).
The Thailand first stop is what prompted me to write about being encased in another culture and its aftereffects."
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, James Gillis's book is an engaging journal of his two-year assignment while serving in Vietnam War-era Thailand in the US Air Force.
Readers who wish to experience this engrossing work can purchase "Jim versus Thailand" at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.
