Josephine Home: US health show 'The Doctors' reveals best and worst sleeping positions
(PRWEB UK) 29 August 2013 -- A recent screening of popular TV show, ‘The Doctors’, saw Dr Michael J Breus suggest that certain sleeping positions could be better for your body compared to others – leaving UK luxury bedding retailer Josephine Home astounded by the results.
According to the clinical psychologist, there was a strong chance that sleeping in the incorrect position could affect your health; resulting in possible strain across the neck and back.
Josephine Home’s creative director, Stephanie Betts, said: “While we all have our own comfort sleeping positions, the impact it has on our lifestyle is extreme. Although on many occasions it can be easy to blame factors such as sagging mattresses or overstuffed pillows, it basically comes down to our sleeping habits.
“For example, Dr Breus recommends sleeping on your back as your weight is evenly distributed – however, sleeping on your stomach means that turning your head to almost 90 degrees can cause intense strain around your neck.”
While the ideal sleeping position may differ depending on the person, Dr Breus suggests one-on-one consultations in an attempt to seek out what is best. However, elements such as old bedding can be blamed for discomfort during sleeping; and proposes investing in quality bed linen for healthier sleeping patterns.
“Given that we spend approximately a third of our lives in bed, it is imperative for our lifestyles that we enjoy a decent night’s sleep,” added Betts.
“As we spend a significant amount of time asleep, this directly impacts upon how we perform when we are awake – as the right bedding can in fact improve our energy levels as well as encourage productivity.
“Whether it’s your sheets, your pillows or your mattress, a quick purchase into the correct bedding can prove a long-term investment for your health and night-time routine.”
