Kaminski Auctions to Host Two Important Asian Sales Prior to Asia Week in NYC
Beverly, Massachusetts (PRWEB) February 09, 2015 -- In anticipation of Asia Week in NYC Kaminski Auctions’ is planning two important Asian sales on back–to-back weekends for February 22nd, and March 1st 2015. An Asian Collections auction is featured on February 22nd and an important lifetime private owner collection from California features in the March 1st sale.
The Asian Collections sale on February 22nd, 2015 showcases many hand-selected entries by Kaminski’s Asian specialist Bob Yang as well as entries from various local estates.
Among the top lots of the sale is an early 16th century Chinese Ming Dynasty Zun vase. The cloisonné enamel is decorated with lotus blooms on a turquoise ground. They also appear on the interior of the neck. Gilt dragon handles were added in the 17th century. A similar example of this vase is in the National Palace Museum of Taiwan, # GUF H000818N category Glassware/Cloisonné. This Zun vase previously sold at Christie's in 2006 and is estimated at $20,000-$30,000.
From a private New England collection comes a Chinese famille rose bowl, with deep rounded sides rising from a straight foot to a flaring rim, enameled around the exterior with four archaistic phoenix in pink, yellow, blue and green, within two gilt borders. This piece was also previously sold at Christie’s in November of 2012.
Other important lots include a Chinese blue glazed Mei vase, from the Qing Qianlong period, with Qianlong mark, measuring 9 3/4"inches in height, as well as an elegantly shaped Chinese Qin-Han dynasty bronze dagger axe, of simple design, carved on one end, on a wood frame filled with silk, measuring 5 inches x 9 ½ inches high. Both lots are estimated at $3,000-$5,000.
There is a large selection of huanghuali and zitan furniture on offer, including a rare huanghuali cabinet having three tiers, carved with two-ring motifs in a geometric pattern valued at $2,000-$3,000, and an impressive rectangular huanghuali cabinet, of simple design with an elaborately carved metal lock valued at $2,500-$3,500.
Huanghuali office chairs, and a fine selection of hunaghuali, zitan and elmwood tables and altar tables are included in the sale.
Fine art in the sale includes two Brian Coole paintings. The first depicts American traders in Hong Kong and the other is a view of a fleet of ships at the Straits of Whampo. Both are estimated $9,000-$12,000. There is also a important portrait of a Thangka boat woman, attributed to Yeugus circa 1860. Housed in a China trade frame, it is is valued at $2000-$3,000.
Chinese scroll paintings in the sale include a watercolor on paper scroll, signed "Megatu Kaian," valued at $3,000-$5,000.
Several Chinese and Thai Buddhas of bronze and stone and a fine selection of jade round out the offerings in the February 22nd Asian Collections sale which will be available online at http://www.kaminskiauctions.com on Friday, February 6th by 8:00pm.
