Kim Cameron Sets Children’s Book Tour Dates
Washington, DC (PRWEB) January 17, 2014 -- Billboard Artist and now children’s author Kim Cameron announced her book tour dates across the US schools. Riding high from charting two of her recent singles on Billboard’s Dance Club charts, Cameron has gone on the road, taking her puppets with her for her book reading of Seaper Powers: In Search of Bleu Jay’s Treasure, (released Summer 2013).
Using hand puppets, Cameron travels to elementary schools, delivering an animated abridged version of the first in the Seaper Powers series. Last month, she released the second in the series Seaper Powers: The Mystery of the Blue Pearls and is currently writing the third. The books have been released in paperback, ebook and audio with production by John DePatie, Hollywood, CA. Schools have been more than a little enthusiastic about the tour due of the wide age group (K-3) the book appeals to.
Seaper Powers was ranked one of the top children’s books for 2013 and received 10 out of 10 stars from book reviewers; ‘Bout Books, Good Reads, Top of the Heap, Everyday Life Book Review, to name a few.
The official kick off was Christmas Eve in Washington, DC at the National Institute of Health’s Children’s Inn. Sixteen families could not make it home for Christmas this year due to ongoing treatments for their child at the hospital. As the families gathered around, Kim Cameron brought out the puppets to tell the story of a little girl who finds magical powers in the Caribbean sea and can talk to fish.
That event was sponsored by Agilex Technologies, who donated Seaper Powers books I and II to each family, along with a stuffed fish toy. “I love reading to book to kids, but doing the reading at the Inn was probably the most special reading I have ever done,” said Cameron. “I was touched that the children wanted to talk about their illness with me. It was hard not have your stomach knot up when a 7 year old cannot see out of her right eye, or another who is on her third try to beat leukemia.”
After touring the libraries this past summer, Cameron decided to take the puppets to the elementary schools. The tour covers several schools in Washington, DC, South Carolina, Florida, California and New York. Before the tour is complete, well over 6,000 kids will have had the Seaper Powers Puppet Experience.
“Having Kim was a nice change of pace for our story time group. She was enthusiastic, and the story was entertaining. The puppets really added an extra level of excitement to the performance!” said Amy Adams, Manager,Folly Beach Library.
The cover of the first book was recently selected by the Children’s Inn as an auction item at this year’s Children’s Inn Gala on April 5th, held at the Ritz Carlton, Tysons, Virginia. This gala is one of the premier events in the Washington, DC metro area and includes both a silent and live auction with all proceeds going to the Children’s Inn.
