Lajollacooks4u Collaborates with the San Diego Food Bank
SAN DIEGO (PRWEB) November 29, 2017 -- Lajollacooks4u is pleased to announce it is collaborating with the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank as part of a five-week cooking series with a local elementary school.
For 90 minutes each week, Callie Brust, the Food Bank’s Nutrition and Wellness Educator, and Chef Jodi Abel, Founder of Lajollacooks4u, guide a group of 4th and 5th grade students through a variety of lessons, such as cooking safety, food preparation, knife skills and nutritious meal selection. Then, Abel assists the children in preparing some of her company’s signature dishes, such as black bean and vegetable whole wheat quesadillas, cauliflower fried rice and quinoa with black bean and corn.
Callie Brust said, “Chef Jodi is a natural and such a gifted chef. It is our greatest pleasure to be collaborating with her on this very special project! We hope to take our program to additional schools in the New Year.”
Abel first became involved with the Food Bank through its Food 4 Kids Backpack program, which provides chronically hungry elementary school students with backpacks full of food each Friday to help them through the weekend. Now on the Board for their upcoming 2018 Gala next April, she jumped at the chance to become even more involved.
“I’ve always been passionate about feeding people, so when it came to my attention so many in our community struggle with hunger, it really hit home for me," Abel said. "I’m so grateful for this opportunity to help more in need and increase awareness of this worthy cause.”
