Leavitt Partners Center for Accountable Care Intelligence Publishes Article in American Journal of Managed Care
(PRWEB) July 31, 2013 -- Three members of Leavitt Partners Center for Accountable Care Intelligence team, Andrew Croshaw, David Muhlestein, and Tom Merrill, have co-authored a recently published an article in the American Journal of Managed Care. The article, Risk Bearing and Use of Fee-for-Service Billing Among Accountable Care Organizations, is based on interviews with 57 ACOs and offers insight into the willingness of accountable care organizations (ACOs) to bear finical risk for the health care they provide.
The authors report that 71 percent of the studied ACOs bear financial risk for at least a portion of their ACO population while 45 percent have their entire ACO population covered under a risk-bearing arrangement. Additionally, they found that 92 percent of ACOs continue to use fee-for-service payments as a basis for a portion of their ACO contracts.
