St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) July 08, 2013 -- On September 14, 2013, the world’s top professional water ski jump and wakeboarders will compete for the Midwest NightFLY crown at the newest addition to the World Ski Fly Tour—Midwest NightFLY. The tour has stops all over the world including Calgary, Canada; Melbourne, Australia; and London, England. The Midwest is proud to welcome these world famous skiers to push their limits on the waters of Creve Coeur Lake in St. Louis, Missouri.
St. Louisians love their lakes and water sports. It won’t take but a “join us on the lake” to draw in a crowd of excited spectators. This brand new St. Louis festival is not the first of it’s kind. With similar successful events in Milwaukee, Orlando, and Baton Rouge, the goal is to make this an annual event to be enjoyed by the many water sports enthusiasts and festival goers in the area.
Creve Coeur Lake will be thriving with activities on September 14. The morning will start with a charity 6K & 12K running race to help promote healthy lifestyles in the community. Throughout the day there will be music, a marketplace full of vendors, on water exhibitions including free-style jumping, barefoot skiing, and show ski demonstrations. The main event starts at dusk when the lake lights up with stadium lighting and the athletes fly over 200 feet to fight for the title of Midwest NightFLY Champion.
St. Louis City Parks and Recreation estimates 5,000+ park goers on average for this September weekend. With an extreme event such as this, the park could see numbers in the 10,000+ range.
“I grew up in St. Louis and spent my summers on the river and at the Lake of the Ozarks,” event organizer, Cole Kalkbrenner said. “Water sports are my passion and I share this passion with so many in the Midwest, specifically in St. Louis. We may not be the land of the lakes or be by an ocean but we don’t have a shortage of people who love to be by the water. We are putting together this event for the water sports enthusiasts in our area and to promote this extreme sport.
“We’re bringing in Illinois native and World Jump Record holder Freddy “The Nightmare” Krueger and Missouri’s very own professional wakeboarder, Kirby Liessman, to compete in this international event. In the jump portion of the event, the skiers will launch themselves at a six-foot high ramp reaching speeds of 70 mph and fly distances over 200 feet. The athletes get three approaches at the ramp. Whoever goes the furthest, wins. In the wakeboard portion, the border to score the highest amount of points in a 30-second turn will be crowned Midwst NightFLY Champion.”
Midwest NightFLY has a $5 entry fee for prime viewing seats, access to interact with the professionals, and to enjoy a day at the lake with your friends and family. A VIP tent will be available with limited tickets at $50 for unlimited food and beverage and front row seats. For all the details, go to http://www.midwestnightfly.com.
