Middle School Students Set to Take Part in SAE International’s AWIM Motorized Toy Car Competition during SAE 2016 World Congress
WARRENDALE, Pa. (PRWEB) March 28, 2016 -- 150 middle school students from 10 Detroit area schools will participate in the 5th Annual A World In Motion® (AWIM) International Motorized Toy Car Competition, Tuesday, April 12 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in Hall D Cobo Center, Detroit.
The Motorized Toy Challenge, which is hosted by SAE International and sponsored by Honeywell and Henkel, is set up as a friendly competition where students (in Engineering Design Teams of three or four) compete in a variety of engineering design competitions that demonstrate the classroom-based AWIM experience they have engaged in for the weeks leading up to the competition.
“We very much appreciate the support that our sponsors, Honeywell and Henkel, provide in helping to make this important student competition a success,” Chris Ciuca, Director of Pre-Professional Programs, SAE International, said. “The International Motorized Toy Car Competition is unique in that it enables students, teachers and volunteers to come together and share their engineering skills and knowledge.”
Each AWIM a ctivi ty incorporates a curriculum built around the "Engineering Design Experience," and requires students to work in teams to solve a “challenge” to design, build and test a product. In addition, an industry volunteer works in the classroom to assist teachers with AWIM content delivery and serve as a role model, community liaison and professional resource. This winning combination of a pedagogically sound curriculum, teacher professional development, and the use of STEM professionals in the classroom is proven to be effective. AWIM is working to engage and inspire students at the earliest age possible to pursue STEM subjects and careers.
