New iOS App Appeals to Social Networkers with ‘Commitment Fears’
New Bedford, Mass. (PRWEB) August 29, 2013 -- Racut Inc. today launched an exciting new mobile application for iPhone and iPod Touch, called racut™, that helps people share news, information and much more with others around them.
The free app turns anyone into an “insider” - without having to friend, follow or hashtag - by utilizing GPS and two new technologies, Elastic Chat™ and Shout™, both developed by Racut Inc.
The racut app, which is available immediately for download from the App Store, can be installed on any iPhone or iPod Touch device running iOS 5.1 or greater. There are no in-app purchases and some features of the app will be supported through advertising.
“Existing social platforms are great for connecting people over vast distances, but not so good at connecting strangers who live in the same neighborhood,” said Justin Brodeur, CEO of Racut Inc. “Your friend across the country might not care that emergency responders are descending upon your street, but it’s relevant to your neighbors - and they may want to know more."
“racut was designed to be an awesome experience for people who want to actively create or passively consume information relative to their location,” Brodeur said. “It is social networking without the commitment.”
racut solves the problem by connecting people nearby, based on their location, through private chat, group chat and local broadcast. Messages sent through Shout, racut’s proprietary broadcast feature, automatically appear on all users’ Shout screens within a prescribed radius of where the message originated.
“racut’s Shout feature is ideal for businesses who want to advertise to people who are in close enough proximity to react or for people to share information that could be relative to their location,” Brodeur said.
A new kind of networking - with new technologies
The racut app (pronounced ˈrakit) approaches privacy differently from other social networks. The platform’s profile feature is designed to be as anonymous as users want. Users create a name of their choice, pick a profile photo, craft a bio and they’re on their way. The app eliminates the pressure for people to enter their real name, education, date of birth or relationship status. The method is designed to encourage sharing and foster connections in real life, at each individual's own pace.
The WayFinder feature, powered by Elastic Chat™ technology, enables people to have conversations within the context of a location. For example, when someone at a concert wants to connect with other concert-goers they can join the location’s eponymous chat or create a sidebar. A sidebar is the digital equivalent of a small group conversation at a bigger party - it helps a small group connect and interact while the larger party continues around them.
Elastic Chat enables people to stretch time while staying in the present. The traditional chat experience is temporary - you say something and it disappears into the ether. With Elastic Chat, when you share a photo or a thought, it becomes a part of that location’s history. This is helpful for people who are visiting a location for the first time, and helps them uncover their next great experience.
