North Central Surgeon Helps Endomag Begin Sentimag® Trials in U.S.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) February 06, 2015 -- North Central Surgical Center Hospital is proud to announce that one of its surgeons has played a large role in a recent cancer healthcare trial. Dr. Peter Beitsch helped to carry out the first of Endomag’s Sentimag® trials in the U.S. Endomag recently announced that they have now completed the first of their Sentimag and Sienna+® system procedures, beginning an important clinical trial.
The system is used during breast cancer staging and allows surgeons to more accurately locate potentially-cancerous lymph nodes. First, the Sienna+ magnetic tracer is inserted into the breast. Then, the Senitmag handheld probe finds the sentinel nodes, which have taken up the Sienna+.
“This is a breakthrough in sentinel node detection, allowing surgeons to localize nodes precisely and rapidly without any of the concerns associated with the use of radioactivity,” said Dr. Beitsch. “This product has the potential to eliminate radioisotopes in sentinel node biopsy, simplifying the procedure for surgeons and making accurate staging more widely available.”
This system by Endomag offers a pain-free option for patients and more control for surgeons. Led by the University of California, San Francisco, the study will include up to 180 breast cancer patients. The system is approved for use in Europe, where thousands of cancer patients have seen results.
According to Dr. Quentin Harmer, CTO at Endomag, “Starting this clinical trial in the USA is a critical step for Endomag in our goal of improving the standard of care for cancer patients around the world. Some of the finest surgeons at cancer centers across the United States are involved in the trial. We are excited by their enthusiasm about Sentimag® and Sienna+® and the system’s potential to take sentinel node detection to the next level of accuracy and availability.”
