One year later the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery Young Adult and Families Recovery Program is going strong.
Bridgeport, CT (PRWEB) December 28, 2015 -- CCAR continues to be excited about a new program it opened this past year in Bridgeport. Carol Cruz, Manager of the Young Adult and Families Recovery Program has been hard at work, meeting with community members and starting new activities for young people in recovery from alcohol and other addictions and their family members. CCAR hosts weekly support groups in the office at 853 Fairfield Avenue: Young Parents in Recovery and Writers in Recovery as well as the Families, Friends and Allies Network. CCAR just introduced a new training series, Families Affected by Addiction, to provide education and support. Trained CCAR volunteers make weekly phone calls from the office to young people who sign up to receive these recovery check-in calls. In the community, staff and volunteers have been making outreach presentations to local programs, high schools and colleges to share their stories about their recoveries and to talk about the help that is available through this Young Adult Program. A primary goal of recovery story telling is to let audiences know that millions of people are successful in managing recovery and that help and hope are available. This method is referred to as “putting a face and voice on recovery” to demonstrate that people who recover from addiction are just like everyone around them, and to serve as “living proof” that recovery is possible. CCAR wants those who are struggling with alcohol and/or drugs to know they are not alone and that CCAR as well as many other treatment and recovery programs in Connecticut can help. Thousands of people use various methods to begin and sustain their recovery journeys thus, many pathways of recovery are promoted at CCAR. Since 1998 the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) has organized the recovery community (people in recovery, family members, friends and allies) to put a face on recovery and to provide recovery support services to help sustain recovery. By promoting recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction through advocacy, education and service, CCAR strives to end discrimination surrounding addiction and recovery, open new doors and remove barriers to recovery, maintain and sustain recovery regardless of the pathway, all the while ensuring that all people in recovery, and people seeking recovery, are treated with dignity and respect. CCAR envisions a world where the power, hope and healing of recovery from alcohol and other drug addiction is thoroughly understood and embraced. For more information, visit http://www.ccar.us.
