Paradigm Malibu Announces New Focus On Combating Teen Anxiety Through Early Treatment
Malibu, California (PRWEB) February 25, 2014 -- Statistics from the National Institute of Mental Health reveal approximately 8 percent of teens suffer from an anxiety disorder with an estimated 6 percent falling into the category of severe disorders; however, only 18 percent of those affected have access to treatment for their condition. Without therapy, suffering from the many forms of anxiety during this stage in their lives increases the likelihood of carrying such a disorder into adulthood. In light of these figures, Cole Rucker of Paradigm Malibu has announced increased efforts to combat the many forms of teen anxiety through early treatment.
Rucker explained, "Paradigm Malibu now has a strong focus on teen anxiety treatment as well as other mental health issues. In order to create the most effective treatment plan possible, we look at each teen individually. No two patients are the same, and neither are their specific conditions; therefore, they will not all respond to exactly the same treatments. We look at their personal strengths rather than only their symptoms in order to form a plan tailored specifically to each patient."
Studies indicate teen anxiety disorders stem from a number of causes including genetic predisposition, traumatic events and chemical imbalances. These disorders also take many different forms. In its general form, teens suffering from anxiety worry constantly about various life issues such as performance in school, family problems, relationships with friends and relatives and other situations. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is another common form of anxiety in which teens feel a driving need to perform certain specific routines in order to relieve their apprehensions.
Social anxiety disorder presents itself in teens as well, exhibited by irrational fears of social situations including speaking in front of their peers or being immersed in large groups. This condition can severely hamper a teen's achievements in school as well as their ability to form and maintain relationships. In any form, anxiety can lead to depression as well as having other negative effects on a teen's life.
The professionals at Paradigm Malibu provide a number of therapies geared toward recovery. Each patient's stay at Paradigm begins with a psychiatric evaluation to determine the illness at hand. They look at what may have brought about the condition and its symptoms as well as the teen's individual interests and positive attributes.
From there, the staff creates a unique teen mental health treatment plan, which will include group and individual therapy sessions combined with dance, art, writing and equine therapy as well as numerous other approaches. Parents are included in treatment, so they can learn methods of communication and working with their teens during and after their stay at Paradigm.
Concluded Rucker, "We encourage parents and their teens to explore our site and see why Paradigm is ranked the #1 treatment program for Adolescent Mental Health, Teen Addiction, Teen Drug Abuse, and Teen Eating Disorders more often than any other program. By working as a team with patients and their families, we can help them manage their disorders and carry such skills into adulthood, allowing them to live healthy, well rounded lives."
