Piattelli Vineyards Launches New Wine Line in Minnesota
Minneapolis, Minn. (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- Piattelli Vineyards announces the Minnesota launch of a new line of wines from Cafayate, Salta, Argentina.
Since Minnesota distributor Vinocopia, Inc began importing Piattelli wines in 2006—the first US state to carry the brand—Piattelli has grown into the top-selling Argentina wine brand at its price point ($12-$25) in the state. Aiming to build on this success, Piattelli is releasing the first bottles of its second winery into Minnesota as its first foray into the United States.
Originally based in Mendoza, Argentina, Piattelli Vineyards opened a second winery in Cafayate, Salta, the northerly sister region of Mendoza, in 2013. With a total eventual capacity of 80,000 cases, the Cafayate winery is still working up to full-scale production in the young vineyards. As production capacity increases, the Cafayate wines are expected to be available in Minnesota in growing quantities over the course of the next several months.
With the launch of the Cafayate winery, Piattelli has become the only Argentina wine brand to produce two full lines of wine in two distinct wineries and wine regions—Mendoza and Salta. The two lines are presented alongside each other, both produced with the same philosophy and approach to winemaking, but each demonstrating the characteristics of two very different regions and terroirs. The price point for both lines will remain equal to encourage consumers to sample and compare the wines from both regions.
“Adding in the new Cafayate wines to our well-known Mendoza line is an excellent way to build on the tremendous success it has already achieved among wine drinkers in Minnesota," said Piattelli’s Cafayate Lead Winemaker Alejandro Nesman. "We encourage consumers to try and contrast the Piattelli variations on a single varietal and witness Mendoza's elegance side-by-side with Cafayate's power.”
The timing of this launch coincides with the first Wine Spectator ratings for the Cafayate line in the July 31 issue of Wine Spectator. The 2013 Piattelli Cafayate Reserve Malbec received 90 points, the same rating given most recently to its more-established sister, the 2012 Premium Reserve Malbec from Mendoza. July’s edition of Wine Spectator Buyer’s Guide focuses on New Wines From Around the World, and spotlights Piattelli’s Cafayate winery on the opening page. In the Argentina recommendations, the Piattelli Cafayate Reserve Malbec 2013 is featured as a best buy (SRP $17) with its Winemaker Alejandro Nesman pictured next to Kim Marcus’ excellent review.
