Pius Joseph Comments on Recent News of Immigration Bill and US-India Relations
(PRWEB) September 27, 2013 -- Five former US ambassadors to India warned Congress last week that a new immigration bill will harm US and Indian companies – and could bring retribution from the Indian government.
According to the Times of India (9.22.13), the version of the bill under consideration in the Senate, S. 744, includes provisions that will make it difficult for Indian IT companies to work with their US counterparts, according to the ambassadors. They voiced their warning in a strongly worded letter to Senate and House leaders, as reported in the New York Daily News (09.12.2013).
Immigration lawyer Pius Joseph says that the ambassadors are right for being worried, and says that the provisions are a by-product of taking a “one size fits all” approach to immigration.
“The reality is that the US simply does not face the same risks and difficulties with immigrants from all countries,” said Joseph, the founder of the Law Offices of Pius Joseph.
Many of those skilled workers come from India, Joseph says.
“S. 744 would make it harder for US companies to use Indian IT companies because their workers would face more challenges getting work visas,” he said. “This will be very costly in the short-term and could lead to strained relations long-term.”
The ambassadors' letter pointed to the great strides India has made in making it easier for US companies to do business there.
