Portion of Sales from The Park Catalog Recycled Plastic Benches and Recycled Plastic Picnic Tables Goes to Donation for Everglades Foundation
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) August 02, 2016 -- The Park and Facilities Catalog recently donated a portion of sales from the sale of recycled plastic benches and recycled plastic picnic tables to the Everglades Foundation in a promotion that began on Earth Day.
“We’re very proud to support the Everglades Foundation and their continued efforts to protect water in Florida and to find solutions for polluted water around the globe,” said Andy Kowalczyk, Business Development Marketing Manager at The Park and Facilities Catalog. “Part of their program involves protecting the largest sub-tropical eco-system here in our backyard, the Everglades.”
The Everglades and Central Florida have been a major topic in the national news recently, as large green algae blooms from polluted runoff have contaminated Lake Okeechobee and are discharging into waterways pouring east to the Atlantic Ocean and west to the Gulf of Mexico. Nearly 30 communities in Florida have been adversely affected by the algae, which has stopped recreational and commercial fishing and closed many beaches and rivers. High concentrations of phosphorous has also had a major impact on the Everglades eco-system as well. Since 1994, the Everglades Foundation has led the fight in the Sunshine States to find solutions to these and other problems. Many notable Florida residents are board members, including singer Jimmy Buffet and golfer Jack Nicklaus.
"We are grateful to The Park and Facilities Catalog for their generous donation and their support of Everglades conservation," said Eric Eikenberg, CEO of The Everglades Foundation.
The Park and Facilities Catalog supplies site furnishings to parks around the country and the company is a strong advocate for national, state and local parks. Many employees are regular park visitors. Staff members have collectively visited nearly every one of the top 50 national parks. The company’s new TEC42 line of recycled plastic benches, recycled plastic picnic tables and recycled plastic trash receptacles is an example of how businesses can contribute to the “greening” of America. These recycled plastic products are made from 100% pure recycled plastic scrap such as plastic milk jugs. With advances in technology park benches and picnic tables are more durable and than many traditional site furnishings such as wood. Because TEC42 represents “green” products, starting on Earth Day the Park Catalog decided to donate a portion of the sales of their recycled plastic site furnishings for the entire month. Kowalczyk presented a check to Eric Eikenberg, CEO of the Everglades Foundation, for $2,734.
“We found donating a portion of our sales for the month was a simple way for us to raise money for the Everglades Foundation,” said Kowalczyk. “We encourage other businesses to do the same. Not only does it promote us as good corporate citizens, but this participation from the private sector is also critical to helping organizations such as the Everglades Foundation find ways to preserve the planet.”
Another major project that the Everglades Foundation is involved in is the George Barley Water Prize – a competition where the foundation will award a $10 million prize to the individual or group that finds a way to eliminate water pollution by phosphorous, a problem that is harming fresh water around the globe. There are different competition stages that will support advances in phosphorus-removal technology over a four-year period.
Other business donors include Lacoste (which incidentally features an alligator in its logo), Florida Power & Light and Darden Restaurants which includes Red Lobster, Olive Garden, the Yard House and many other very familiar eating establishments.
