Portland, OR Personal Injury Attorney Jon Zbinden Weighs In On Hit-And-Run Accidents
Portland, OR (PRWEB) October 03, 2013 -- Portland, OR auto accident attorney Jon Zbinden said a news report about a recent hit-and-run accident in Portland that left a bicyclist severely injured serves a reminder that drivers should never flee the scene of an accident.
Oregon Live (“Portland Police examining vehicle pieces for possible connection to Southwest Barbur hit-and-run,” August 20) reports that a 20-year-old Lewis & Clark student was hit by a car and seriously injured as he walked his bike home from work.
“Drivers who are involved in any type of collision, no matter how large or small, have a moral and legal obligation to stay at the scene of the accident. A driver must stop and render aid,” said Zbinden, who represents victims of negligence and families whose loved ones are killed in accidents. “We have seen first-hand the devastating impact of hit-and-run accidents, and that’s why we fight hard to protect the rights of victims.”
According to Oregon Live, the driver did not stop after hitting the student, who was later found by a TriMet bus driver who called for help. The article said the student suffered two broken legs, a fractured clavicle, broken vertebrae, and numerous bruises as a result of the accident, which occurred after he noticed his bike had a flat tire and had begun walking it home.
In addition, the Oregon Live report said that although bus passengers have been interviewed and evidence has been collected from the accident scene, no witnesses to the hit-and-run accident have come forward.
“As this report illustrates, a hit and run accident can cause very serious injuries, especially to bicyclists and pedestrians who are especially vulnerable. People should always stop after an accident so they can help the injured. It’s also illegal to flee the scene of an accident,” said Zbinden, a car accident attorney in Portland, OR. “Victims of hit-and-run accidents may be entitled to compensation for their losses, even if the negligent individual is not found. A personal injury lawyer may be able to help victims and their families with these types of cases.”
