Prof. Jeffrey J. Haas Elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for American Independence Funds Trust and Trust II
New York, NY (PRWEB) February 07, 2014 -- American Independence Funds Trust and American Independence Funds Trust II (“American Independence Funds”) are pleased to announce that Professor Jeffrey J. Haas has been unanimously elected as Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Professor Haas brings more than 26 years of legal and business experience to the position, and has served on the Board of American Independence Funds since 2005. He is currently Professor of Law at New York Law School specializing in securities regulation with an emphasis on mutual funds.

Professor Haas has been an Independent Trustee of the American Independence Funds since July 2005. He previously served as an Independent Trustee of the HSBC Funds from 1999 to 2002. Professor Haas has been a Professor of Law at New York Law School since 1996 and teaches courses in securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, mutual fund regulation, corporate finance, corporations and contracts. From 1988 to 1995 he was a Corporate Attorney first with Cravath, Swaine & Moore and later with Latham & Watkins. He has authored and co-authored numerous books and publications in such areas as investment advisor regulation, securities regulation, corporate finance and corporate directorial fiduciary duties. Professor Haas received his B.S. in Finance and Classical Civilizations from Florida State University and his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.
Also, American Independence Funds is pleased to announce that Terry L. Carter, who has served as an independent trustee of American Independence Funds Trust since its inception, has been elected as an independent trustee of American Independence Funds Trust II. Mr. Carter has been an Independent Trustee of the Trust since March 2006. Mr. Carter served as an Independent Trustee to the predecessor American Independence Funds since their inception in November 1996. He also served as an Independent Trustee for the Bank IV Funds. Mr. Carter, presently retired, previously served 26 years as a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for an $8 billion privately-held food and gasoline retailer where he continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors. He also currently serves as a Trustee for the University of Oklahoma Foundation where he chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the Investment Committee and Executive Committee. Mr. Carter is a Trustee for the Oklahoma Methodist Conference Foundation where he is a member of the Investment Committee. He is a business/finance graduate of the University of Oklahoma.
The appointments are effective immediately.
