Pulmonary Hypertension Association Endorses CHEST Guidelines for Treatment of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Adults
Silver Spring, Md. (PRWEB) August 27, 2014 -- The American College of Chest Physicians(CHEST) recently released guidelines for the management and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in adults, Pharmacological Therapy for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Adults: CHEST Guideline, in the journal CHEST. The guidelines are free to view for clinicians, and provide the latest and most accurate treatment guidelines for PAH.
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) – the country’s leading pulmonary hypertension association that works to find ways to prevent and cure pulmonary hypertension – endorses these guidelines and sees them as a step in the right direction. Pulmonary hypertension is a disease of the lungs that affects the functioning of the heart and can lead to right heart failure. Without treatment, mean survivability is only 2.8 years.
“Many times physicians are not clearly informed on the latest ways to treat PAH,” said Rino Aldrighetti, PHA President and CEO. “These guidelines help physicians understand the broad range of therapies available and the need for more research to create more.”
Pharmacological Therapy for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension in Adults: CHEST Guideline and Expert Panel Report provides 79 recommendations and expert consensus statements aimed at assisting physicians in the management of PAH using the latest drug therapies. The complete guidelines are available in CHEST Journal. The guidelines were reviewed and endorsed by the PHA Scientific Leadership Council.
