Retail Sales Numbers Reveal Most Romantic States for Valentine’s Day

Data from ShopAtHome.com, the largest coupon search engine that connects upwards of 12 million consumers each month to exclusive deals and Cash Back savings from top stores on the web, shows that folks in the coldest state have the coldest hearts when it comes to Valentine’s Day spending.
Between Jan. 14, 2013 and Feb. 14, 2013, Alaskans spent less than any other state per capita on cupid-friendly gifts, while those from Vermont spent the most. Those lovebirds from Vermont also proved to be the thriftiest shoppers, saving more than any other state during that time period.

Hey, big spender
On average, Valentine’s Day shoppers from Vermont spent $224 on the holiday last year, according to ShopAtHome.com data. That’s $40 more than New Jersey, the second highest spending state, and a whopping $147 more than lowest-spending state Alaska, where $76.50 was the average.
Hearts belong to mom
Additionally, stats from ShopAtHome.com reveal shoppers spend more money on flowers on Mother’s Day than Valentine’s Day. In the two weeks prior to Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day in 2013, shoppers spent 51 percent more in May at 1800Flowers, FTD and ProFlowers.
