Rockwell Time Recognizes Duo For Breakthrough Performance In 'Heavy Metal' Music
Woods Cross, Utah (PRWEB) February 19, 2016 -- At the half-way point of its six-month "It's About Time!" campaign sending each month Rockwell gift packages of a watch and sunglasses to an individual or individuals demonstrating breakthrough achievement in science, sport, or song, Rockwell Time today announced that the company is honoring as its February winners the two-man music group Matmos, which today released a music album made entirely by sounds from a washing machine.
Rockwell Time, a U.S. producer of luxury lifestyle watches, apparel, vision wear and high-end leather belts, is delivering to Baltimore-based Matmos members M.C. (Martin) Schmidt and Drew Daniel each a Rockwell Time 747 watch and a Monza pair of sun glasses.
The Matmos album, produced by Thrill Jockey Records, runs in a single, continuous 38-minute 'experience' (the length of one of its wash cycles) that begins with the sound of the machine's wash size selection knob and ends with its 'cycle finished' noise. In between, the machine is pounded like a drum and its various operational noises are sampled and processed until they reflect very little of the original source. "When I learned that Matmos would be releasing a new album February 19 and it would contain sounds from a Whirlpool Ultimate Care II washing machine in the group's home, I thought, this is truly a unique 'spin' on the term 'heavy metal', pun intended!" said Rockwell CEO and co-founder Rich Eggett.
As part of Rockwell's It's About Time! Campaign, the company also originally made a call for essays asking veterans and those people inspired by veterans to discuss who had inspired them most in their lives, to 'breakthrough' from military service to civilian life. This month, recognizing the city that Matmos members M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel call home, Baltimore, Rockwell will be providing a total of three Rockwell gift packages to staff members at the Baltimore Station who also are U.S. Army veterans: Maceo Boyce, James Hardy, and Cedric Hynson.
The Baltimore Station (http://www.baltimorestation.org) has, over the past 25 years, transformed from a small group of devoted citizens assisting the homeless in South Baltimore to the innovative therapeutic residential treatment program supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction and homelessness to self-sufficiency.
Maceo Boyce is a Case Manager Trainee at South Baltimore station since 2010. A certified Alcohol and Drug Trainee, he holds an Associates Degree in Addiction Counseling. After going through the program himself in 2007, Boyce attributes his interest in counseling to his ability to relate to the residents. Boyce is a veteran of the U.S. Army -- touring for 12 months in the Vietnam War.
James Hardy began as a Night Manager at The Baltimore Stations' Baker Street location and was promoted in 2015 to Alumni and Outreach Coordinator. Hardy.who enjoys carpentry and laying brick, grew up in Richmond, Virginia and is a U.S. Army Veteran.
Cedric Hynson is a night manager at Baker Street Station, and is majoring in Applied Psychology at Coppin State University. At Coppin State University, Hynson has made the Dean's list every semester, and is focused on becoming a Certified Program Counselor. Hyson served 6 years active and 6 years reserve services in the U.S. Army. He has been at the Baker Street Station for almost three years.
