San Francisco named Saveur Readers’ Choice for Best Culinary Destination, Large Domestic
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) September 10, 2014 -- The readers of Saveur, the definitive culinary and culinary-travel magazine, have voted San Francisco the Best Culinary Destination, Large Domestic in the second annual Saveur Culinary Travel Awards.
According to Saveur, “San Francisco, as our readers have discovered, has never been tastier. Food lovers are flocking to this unassuming yet proudly original culinary mecca for its unique take on sustainable, seasonal cuisine, its vibrant street-food scene, its innovative eateries, and its bars for every budget.”
San Francisco was also the Readers’ Choice winner in the category of Best Markets and Shops, Domestic.
Saveur explains: “The farmers’ markets here are legendary—the city is filled with talented chefs looking to find the best ingredients to turn their daily menus into an extravagant homage to the locavore lifestyle, and foraging the markets is their starting point. But regular folk are the ultimate beneficiaries of such bounty and knowledge. They can rub elbows with chefs, chat up a cheese purveyor about the provenance of an ash-covered tomme, or learn to identify different heirloom beans.”
Such accolades are neither new nor surprising in San Francisco, which has long been recognized as a leader in the culinary world.
In May 2014 the James Beard Foundation named Charles Phan’s The Slanted Door the Outstanding Restaurant in the country. Daniel Patterson of Coi was named Best Chef for California, Nevada and Hawaii. Quince was honored for Outstanding Service.
The 2014 Michelin Guide to San Francisco awards five restaurants with two stars, 14 with one star and rates dozens of others (it’s considered an honor just to be listed). Michelin has been reviewing restaurants in San Francisco and the Bay Area for eight years.
In the 2014 Trip Advisor Travelers’ Choice Awards, San Francisco was named third of 25 top destinations in the United States. Condé Nast Traveler named San Francisco one of the Top 10 Cities in the United States in the 2013 Readers' Choice Awards with high marks given to the culinary scene.
