Skin and Cancer Center of Scottsdale Rolls Out Skin Care and Skin Cancer Awareness Program to Arizona Schools
Scottsdale, Arizona (PRWEB) December 15, 2015 -- Skin and Cancer Center of Scottsdale (SCCS) has developed a skin care and skin cancer awareness program for Valley teens that seeks to educate students about the importance of proper skin care in Arizona.
Children and teens who suffer from five or more sunburns during their youth increase their risk of developing melanoma by 80 percent, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.
SCCS’s new school program seeks to spread the word about the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and sunburns while delivering information of value and interest to Arizona teens.
“Our first purpose is to educate and empower young people to take care of their skin by using sunscreen as part of their daily grooming regimen,” said Robert J. Casquejo, PA-C and owner of the Skin and Cancer Center of Scottsdale. “But we also want to provide information that students will value so we include a session on proper skin care to help prevent, reduce and treat acne.”
The program offers short to day-long information sessions conducted on campus for students and student athletes, depending on the school’s need.
“We work with school administrators, nurses and coaches to arrange a time that is best for the school and the students we’ll be speaking with,” Casquejo said.
Skin exams are also available to student athletes.
Ninety percent of pediatric melanoma cases occur in those between the ages of 10 to 19, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation.
“We offer short skin exams that can be conducted in any setting to help identify and rule out problems with unusual moles, growths or other skin conditions,” Casquejo said.
