Spartan Race Recaps the 2013 Reebok Spartan Beast in Soldier Hollow, Utah
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) July 13, 2013 -- On July 13, Spartan Race, an obstacle racing series, recaps the Spartan Beast race in Soldier Hollow, Utah.
According to the Spartan blog titled “Reebok Spartan Race Report: Utah,” the Spartan Beast in Soldier Hollow, Utah was one of the most difficult races so far this year.
Mountains loomed over racers as they arrived. The sheer size of the mountains combined with the dry air and scorching heat affected the racers. Changes were made to last year’s course, with more elevation being added to what was already a difficult course to begin with.
For the men, Spartan regulars Hobie Call, Hunter McIntyre and Cody Moat rounded out the top three. For the women, April Luu came in 1st place at another race, while Leann Brinton and Hally Tollner came in second and third, respectively.
The Utah Beast was the first race for many competitors. 14-year-old Winter Vinecki had already completed long races in the past, including Antarctic and Incan Trail marathons. Vinecki took a break from her racing schedule that includes running seven marathons on seven continents to test herself at the Spartan Beast. Supported by her charity http:// Team Winter, a team put together following the tragic loss of her father to prostate cancer, Vinecki runs long distance races to raise money and honor his memory.
Other racers also overcame hard times to conquer the Spartan Beast. Weeple Army member and cancer survivor Kristen Sifers finished the race and completed her Spartan Race Trifecta. James Moody now needs only a Spartan Super to obtain his trifecta. He recently overcame throat cancer and used Spartan Race as a way to get himself back in shape. ZJ Askins ran to support the EOD Wounded Warrior charity by completing the entire race while wearing a full bomb disposal suit. The task took him almost 10 hours, but his determination kept him going until the finish line.
Other notable feats at the race included James Cannon completing the race twice and then adding an extra 2.2 miles to bring the distance from 24 to 26.2 miles – a Spartan Beast Marathon! Corey Peterson proposed to his girlfriend Bekka Bingham at the finish line, which brought tears of joy and a party atmosphere to all of the onlookers. Spartan Race founder and CEO Joe DeSena says, “I wish the newly engaged couple all the best. The Spartan Beast in Soldier Hollow, Utah was definitely a memorable race.”
