Colonel David L. Coggins, the President of Fork Union Military Academy, announced that he has selected Steve Macek to serve as the school's Chief of Staff.
FORK UNION, Va., May 1, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Colonel David L. Coggins, the President of Fork Union Military Academy, announced that he has selected Steve Macek to serve as the school's Chief of Staff.
"I trust COL Steve Macek, who has the wisdom and experience to serve successfully as the Chief of Staff," said Colonel Coggins. "His duties will include managing the staff, planning, and supervising operations. Congratulations to COL Macek for his selection to this important position."
Paige Lester Pruett, Chairman of the school's Board of Trustees, added, "The Board of Trustees fully supports Colonel Coggins and his team, of which Steve Macek is an integral part. Steve's commitment to the Academy is an inspiration to us all."
Macek's breadth of experience at Fork Union Military Academy reaches back to the time when Robert L. "Red" Pulliam was serving as the school's President and spans the broadest possible range of roles at the school. He has been on staff at Fork Union Military Academy since 1994. Macek has worked as a classroom teacher at both the middle school and upper school levels, including serving as the Chair of the Science Department. He has been the head coach and assistant coach of soccer and basketball teams at the prep and junior prep levels. He was the Commandant of Cadets in the Middle School. He has held administrative positions including Director of Admissions, and Vice President for Operations.
"I'm wired to want to know how everything works, to get down into the nooks and crannies. I want to understand not just the how but the why," said Macek. "My time at Fork Union has allowed me to experience everything from teaching science to middle school students, to the operation of our wastewater treatment plant."
"I love working with our cadets," Macek continued. "I love the relationships I have with the people who work here. I love the Christian mission of this school, being able to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Education transcends what happens in a classroom. Education is an awake-time activity, whenever you're awake you have the capacity to learn something. I'm sure there are other great schools out there, but I can't imagine that anyone does a better job of teaching the whole boy, of really a well-rounded education, than Fork Union Military Academy does, and that keeps me here. I can't imagine not being a part of Fork Union. It's just such an honor to be trusted with this role and responsibility."
Macek earned his Bachelor of Science in Science Education from Westfield State University where he was a member of the Alpha Chi and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Societies. He earned his Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia. Steve is married to Dr. Alina Cichocki, a physics instructor, and they have two children, Aniela and Max.
