Suncoast Rehab Center Expands to Fight Against Drug Abuse
Spring Hill, FL (PRWEB) November 18, 2014 -- In order to fight against drug abuse and addiction, Suncoast Rehab Center will be expanding into a new facility currently under construction. The rehab center will be upgrading from a 5,000 square foot facility located in Spring Hill to a 35,000 square foot facility located in Clearwater. The expanded facility is expected to be completed by early 2015, allowing Suncoast to help more clients with their drug abuse and addiction needs.
Even though the National Institute on Drug Abuse states that illicit drug use is increasing, many Americans are not receiving the help that they need. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 23.5 million people over the age of 11 are in need of treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, however, only 2.6 million people received treatment at a special facility. Suncoast Rehab's new, larger facility will be an effort towards fixing this discrepancy.
This expansion comes on the heels of Suncoast Rehab's victory in a five-year court case involving the facility's expansion plans. The case was originally filed in 2009, when Suncoast Rehab attempted to increase the number of client beds from 22 to 54. Hernando County denied the request on the basis of concern over Suncoast Rehab’s clientele. After Suncoast Rehab challenged this denial in court, the court ultimately decided in its favor, ruling that the county’s decision demonstrated discrimination against Suncoast Rehab. The facility was ultimately awarded $1.97 million in damages.
Suncoast Rehab's new facility will be zoned for up to 60 beds, up from 27. Additionally, the new building will allow all elements of the program to be delivered under the same roof, which was not possible in the old facility due to lack of space. The new location will also support a newly designed commercial kitchen – another feature unavailable in the current facility – as well as expanded office space for each aspect of Suncoast Rehab's treatment program which consists of eight steps and four distinct, yet gradient phases designed to bring the client full circle to re-enter life with tools for continued success.
“We are delighted that Suncoast Rehab is expanding, as it means more people in need of treatment will be able to receive the help they deserve,” said Tammy Strickling, Executive Director of Suncoast Rehab. “Everyone should have a chance to reclaim their lives and return to being functioning members of society.”
Suncoast Rehab treats clients from all across the country for addiction and substance abuse needs. Suncoast's medical team designs treatment programs to physically address the malnutrition created by drug abuse, while its counseling team tailors client therapy to help provide insight into the past in order to help those afflicted with drug abuse confront life without reverting to drugs. By addressing the real problems that lead to substance abuse, the program is able to hold a 76% success rate over a two year period, compared to 40-60% relapse rate as reported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Before its relocation, Suncoast Rehab will be giving back to the community. The drug rehabilitation center will be donating a room full of furniture including lamps, desks, chairs, dressers and more to local nonprofits. Those interested in receiving donations may contact Suncoast Rehab at community(at)suncoastrehabcenter(dot)com.
With construction slated to be completed by early in the New Year, Suncoast Rehab will be able to further its commitment to supporting recovering addicts, thus filling the discrepancy between those who need help and those who receive it.
