The Bair Foundation - New Wilmington, Pennsylvania Office to Host Western Region Conference
New Wilmington, PA (PRWEB) October 05, 2013 -- On October 24 and 25, 2013, the staff of The Bair Foundation - New Wilmington office will be hosting a regional training at Slippery Rock University called “Tapestry – Where Each Piece is Essential”. Several training opportunities will be available over a two day period to provide child welfare professionals, teachers, foster parents, and law enforcement professionals with the fundamental concepts needed when working with children, youth, and families. Trainings will focus on awareness, knowledge, and the importance of working together to stabilize homes & strengthen families. A variety of relevant topics will be presented by experts in the field.
Opening the conference will be keynote speaker Danielle Gletow, Founder & Executive Director, of One Simple Wish. For over 12 years, Danielle Gletow has been a passionate advocate for children’s rights. In August 2008, she founded One Simple Wish after becoming a foster parent and witnessing firsthand the obstacles, trauma and heartbreak faced by children in the foster care system. Not one to sit by while injustices occur, Danielle decided to create an organization that empowered anyone to make a direct and meaningful difference in the lives of foster children and vulnerable families by granting them simple, personal wishes online. In July 2009, Danielle left her decade-long career in interactive marketing to pursue One Simple Wish full-time. To date One Simple Wish has granted over 6500 wishes to foster children and vulnerable families and has created a network of over 450 social service agencies in 40 states. Danielle currently resides in Ewing, NJ with her husband, Joe, their two daughters, Mia and Lily, and their beloved English bulldog, Duncan.
PCCYFS will be hosting a Wine & Cheese Legislative Reception on October 24th after the conference from 5pm-7pm, where local Legislatures will be attending. This will not only be an opportunity to thank them for passing Act 55 of 2013 but to also engage in a conversation on the issues that we continue to be concerned about. All are invited to come and meet with them!
Slippery Rock University Social Work Program, an accredited and Pennsylvania provider of social work continuing education is providing up to 12 CEUs for any Licensed Social Worker or Licensed Clinical Social Worker who attends. The Bair Foundation will be providing training certificates for individuals to take back to their employers for training credit.
Additionally, Foster parents who attend will receive credits towards their training hours.
