The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute Celebrates 20 Years
Herndon, VA (PRWEB) October 16, 2013 -- The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) is pleased to announce its 20th anniversary. Founded in 1993, ICPI began with 66 charter members from North America and Europe with a goal to increase the use of segmental concrete pavements in North America. The first organizational meeting was held on October 16-17, 1993 in Chicago, IL. Today, membership exceeds 1,000 and the association budget has grown from $68,000 to $3 million. Since ICPI was founded, segmental concrete pavements have grown from 100 million to over 500 million square feet in North America.
ICPI is the North American trade association representing the interlocking concrete pavement industry. Membership consists of manufacturers, paver installation contractors, distributors and suppliers of products and services related to the industry. Member companies range from regional and national in scope, some family-owned, to vertically integrated, publicly-held multinational corporations. ICPI is recognized by designers as the leading technical organization on segmental concrete pavement systems in North America. Peer organizations overseas consider ICPI the leader in providing resources on emerging trends, technology and information.
ICPI has been instrumental in writing numerous product standards for ASTM and CSA as well as specifications for the U.S. and Canadian government agencies, plus provincial, state and local agencies. Since its inception, the association published many guidance documents, design manuals, software and a magazine for design professionals and project owners. Education has been a centerpiece effort with several installer certification programs for residential, commercial and permeable pavement applications. In addition, ICPI has invested in research projects to demonstrate the performance of segmental paving materials and assemblies, and hosted an international industry conference in 2006.
“Over the last 20 years, ICPI focused on supporting its members in assuring that segmental concrete pavement systems are the preferred choice for low-speed and pedestrian pavements in North America” says Dave Carter, ICPI Chair of the Board. “While the past 20 years have been exciting for our industry, I’m looking forward to the next twenty. ICPI will continue its commitment to members in creating awareness and promoting use of the world’s best pavement system.”
“Having served as Executive Director of the ICPI since 1998, we are where we are today because of focused, passionate members committed to the future growth and success of our industry,” notes ICPI’s Executive Director, Charles A. McGrath, CAE.
ICPI celebrates its anniversary for the next 12 months beginning with a toast on Wednesday, October 23 at its annual trade show, Hardscape North America. The celebration continues with a formal gala at its Annual Meeting in March 2014 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. A special open house is planned in May 2014 at their new offices recently purchased in Chantilly, VA in May, as well as events at their summer membership meeting in Grapevine, Texas in September 2014.
