Think Beyond the Label Releases Insights Around Job Seekers With Disabilities and Attracts Top Employers to Online Career Fair Series
Chicago (PRWEB) June 17, 2014 -- Think Beyond the Label released insights around job seekers with disabilities who attended the second online Think Beyond the Label Career Fair this year, and says it will host its next virtual event on July 30, 2014.
Think Beyond the Label gleaned key insights from the more than 125 participants at the second career fair, held on May 21, to help employers better connect to and recruit candidates with disabilities. Some highlights:
• Nearly 60% of participants say they have more than five years of relevant job experience.
• 28% say they have between one and five years of relevant job experience.
• Healthcare, customer service and accounting are the top three professional categories where candidates indicated they have job experience.
• 38% of participants say they are willing to relocate.
Employers including Aetna, ASCO Numatics, Dart Container Corporation, Discover Communications, KPMG, Learning Tree International, Navigant, Quest Diagnostics, Rockefeller University and VHA, Inc. engaged job seekers with disabilities in more than 260 conversations in a virtual recruiting environment.
The next career fair will be held on July 30, 2014 and has already attracted top national employers including Aetna, Bayer, Capitol One, CBRE, Dart Container Corporation, Immucor, KPMG, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Navigant, Rockefeller University, VHA, Inc., and Wells Fargo. The Think Beyond the Label Online Career Fair, a quarterly networking event, helps federal contractors and subcontractors, as well as other businesses, build their pipeline of qualified candidates with disabilities.
For many employers, the career fair is an innovative approach for helping them meet new federal hiring requirements known as Section 503 and take steps to diversify their workforce. Since March 2014, the Labor Department’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs has required federal contractors and subcontractors to work towards filling at least 7% of their open jobs with people with disabilities.
“Employees with disabilities strengthen our workforce by bringing diversity of experience and perspective,” says Beth Grant, director of talent acquisition at energy company Exelon, an employer participant in the Think Beyond the Label Career Fair. “Think Beyond the Label allows us to easily connect with outstanding candidates with disabilities for positions in our key markets of Baltimore, the Mid-Atlantic, Chicago and Texas. And its virtual recruiting events are designed in a way that allows us to avoid travel costs while still having meaningful interactions with high-quality candidates,” she adds.
Since 2013, Think Beyond the Label Online Career Fair has connected qualified job candidates with disabilities to top U.S. government agencies, global corporations and colleges and universities. The events are co-hosted by Brazen Careerist, a leading recruiting technology firm.
