Todd Zalkins to Speak at Roots Through Recovery Anniversary Celebration
LONG BEACH, Calif. (PRWEB) January 28, 2018 -- Recovery advocate, public speaker and interventionist Todd Zalkins will be the featured speaker at Roots Through Recovery's anniversary celebration on Feb. 6. Zalkins, a Long Beach native, plans to discuss the current opioid addiction epidemic sweeping the nation and how addiction impacts individuals, families and communities.
Zalkins achieved notoriety through his close connection to the members of the band Sublime, including lead singer Bradley Nowell, who succumbed to a heroin overdose in 1996. His own battle with opioid addiction and subsequent recovery has made Zalkins a popular figure in the behavioral healthcare industry, prompting the 2017 film "The Long Way Back: The Story of Todd 'Z-Man' Zalkins."
Roots Through Recovery recently released the e-book "The Incredible Recovery of Todd 'Z-Man' Zalkins," which focuses on his battle with addiction, the opioid crisis in Southern California and Zalkins’ involvement in conducting interventions for families struggling with addiction. The e-book is available for download at roots-recovery.com/ebooks/incredible-recovery-todd-z-man-zalkins/?apcid=9931.
Commemorating the center's first year of business, the anniversary celebration will offer guests a firsthand look at the various services offered at Roots Through Recovery. The day's events also include breakout sessions with several group facilitators, including a Drumming for Healing session, a guided meditation and a Somatic Experiencing group. As Roots Through Recovery continues to build on its momentum in 2018 and beyond, additional services and activities will be implemented to enhance the recovery of clients. Three new programs will be added to the lineup at Roots, including a family program, a medication-assisted treatment program and an LGBTQIA-specific program. In addition to these programs, Roots will be enhancing trauma-based treatments, adding dialectical behavior therapy, neurofeedback and psychodrama.
Executive Director Eric Johnston looks forward to the organization’s second year as much as he did the first. “I want Roots to become an industry-wide name that is known not only for its clinical programming, but also the human connection that we create through all of our services,” he said.
“Watching the clients go through these experiences is what really moves me, because it proves that our program is having a positive impact on them,” Johnston said. “We are on the verge of building a truly unique treatment experience.”
