Volunteer Firefighter Hit by Driver Charged with DUI
(PRWEB) September 17, 2013 -- According to WBNG Binghamton (8-10-2013), 25-year-old volunteer firefighter Clinton A. Houghtaling was struck by a vehicle driven by 19-year-old Travis Lee Taylor. Houghtaling was thrown about 50 feet and had to be taken to Robert Packer Hospital in a helicopter.
Police stated that the accident happened just after noon on Saturday, August 10th. The driver was later charged with underage drinking, aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, DUI and careless driving.
Houghtaling was walking along Rummerfield Creek Road and noticed a vehicle driving toward him. He tried to warn the driver of some wires in the middle of the road and Taylor, the driver, tried to stop. However, he wasn't able to stop and he struck Houghtaling with his vehicle and threw him about 50 feet as the WBNG stated.
Police officers on the scene said they took Taylor into custody because he appeared drunk. He was taken for a chemical blood test after the accident and sent to Bradford County Correctional Facility with bail set at $20,000.
According to WBNG, Houghtaling remained in stable condition, after the accident, at Robert Packer Hospital. "This accident is obviously tragic," stated Philadelphia DUI lawyer, Steven Kellis. "Anytime an accident includes an underage driver charged with a DUI, it's a big deal."
"The state of Pennsylvania doesn't take these types of charges lightly. Without a proper defense prepared by an experienced attorney, the driver could face severe penalties for the charged filed," says Kellis. If you've recently been arrested and charged with a DUI, it's time to let an attorney build your defense and protect your rights. Contact Steven E. Kellis of Kellis Law at 215-940-1200.
