Womensphere Launches Online Global Campaign and Movement to Raise Women’s Voices and Close Gender Gaps at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos
New York, New York (PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- Today, Womensphere launches an online global campaign and movement to help close the sizable gender gap at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting at Davos by using social media to increase women’s participation and voice.
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting takes place this January 22-25, bringing together over 2,500 participants, with 85% men (over 2,000) and only 15% women (over 300) participating this year.
The Womensphere campaign will leverage social media, particularly Twitter, to increase the number of women’s voices being expressed and represented online at the Davos meeting, to raise the number of men championing closing gender gaps, and to diversify the voices being represented at Davos overall.
"Twitter is enabling the democratization of the conversation in real time beyond Davos. The issues discussed at Davos impact us all. Now with this #Womensphere movement, we can impact them," shares Angela Leaney, EVP at Harlem Globetrotters (@leaneyleaney).
“Women make important decisions influencing the economy and impacting the world. Ignoring the fact we are under-represented at Davos would be the same as ignoring what we can bring to the debate,” shares Yanne Doucet, PhD candidate and Co-President, Columbia University’s Women in Science organization (@yannedoucet).
“The world needs more women's voices contributing to the vital discussions at Davos. At Womensphere, we believe that with social media, we can invite and include more women’s perspectives in global discussions on issues impacting our future, and amplify the voices of men and leaders worldwide who champion closing gender gaps,” shares Analisa Balares, CEO of Womensphere and Womensphere Foundation, and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (@analisabalares).
Everyone can join this online global movement through Twitter, using the hashtags #WEF14 and #DavosWomen and including the handle @womensphere. For more details, and to sign up and be recognized as a participant in this global initiative, visit http://www.womensphere.org/davos2014.
