Youth Financial Literacy Foundation Launches Money Management Certification Program
Farmington Hills, Michigan (PRWEB) April 18, 2014 -- WHAT: Kick off of the Youth Financial Literacy Foundation (YFL) initiative in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The YFL is a non-profit initiative to educate youngsters from 8-18 in the matters of personal finance. The program is designed to educate both the student and parents by use of online and instruction book activity with both youngster and parent participation. This initiative is a joint venture between Family Mint, Washtenaw Federal Credit Union and Youth Financial Literacy Foundation. The program is a 5 week program terminating in a graduation ceremony scheduled for June 5, 2014. http://www.yflfoundation.org. The YFL awarded $25,000 in financial aid to high school and college freshmen in February 2014.
WHERE: The Money Management Certification Program will kick off at three (3) schools: April 21, 2014 Erickson Elementary 1427 Levona, Ypsilanti, MI 48189 with 192 students; April 22, 2014,Estabrook Elementary, 1555 W. Cross St., Ypsilanti, MI 48197, 218 students; and Adams STEM Academy, 503 Oak Street, Ypsilanti, MI 48198, 144 Students.
WHY: The program is designed to help youngsters and their parents avoid the financial mistakes a lot of us made in the past. The youngsters and their parents will learn:
1. How to track and budget your money
2. About interest and how it works
3. How to create and achieve financial goals
4. How to form sound money habits that will benefit them for the rest of their lives.
5. Ending with a celebration with prizes/drawing/pizza party
