Nicholas (Nick) Anthony Appello Continues Record Ways Defending 155-Pound Division Amateur MMA and Receives “World Grand Championship" Title in Las Vegas, Nevada
“I am honored to have been the first in history to have received the ‘World Grand Champion’ title in amateur MMA for IMAC. I train hard for my fights and I couldn’t have done this without my coaches, Professor Bob Anderson and my father Coach Anthony Appello,” he said. “I would also like to thank master Stan Witz the promoter of the USA World Championships and IMAC for inviting me to participate in the grand finale.”
Appello fought in the Expert Black Belt Division in control MMA during the 2018 USA World Championship. Appello has the longest undefeated run in the International Martial Arts Council’s (IMAC) MMA.
“The fight started with a couple solid kicks from each fighter, with Nick shoulder tossing his opponent to the ground where he delivered multiple vicious strikes…finishing it with an amazingly fast arm bar,” Anthony Appello said.
Mixed Martial Arts competitions have a very strict set of regulations for the fast growing moving global sport. The young champion, who was inducted into the IMAC World Championship MMA Hall of Fame at the age of 14, also holds the longest undefeated record in USA World Championships and IMAC MMA.
Appello’s overall record in MMA is 30 – 3, along with nine World Titles in MMA. He was also the 2014 Overall California Sport MMA Champion. With the growing popularity of MMA, Appello is steadily gaining momentum as a young, ambitious competitor.
The Southern California resident started learning the sport from his father at a young age and has remained fully committed to it. That commitment drew the attention of Anderson, who is a Master Instructor in Kajukenbo Kenpo, holding six Black Belts. With Anderson’s help, and his father’s, Nick now holds his own Black Belt in Kajukenbo Kenpo, along with a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Freestyle Karate and in the Atrains MMA Fight System.
While attending Knight High School, he was a member of its varsity wrestling team all four years and Captain of the squad in both his junior and senior years.
Appello is now helping his father train other students at Atrains Martial Arts School in the fast growing and fast moving global sport. Meanwhile, he is continuing his training with his eyes set on turning pro.
“I am unbelievably proud of the success Nick has had and I look forward to his bright future,” said his father.
Nick’s was on the ‘Atrains’ team coached by Anthony Appello for the competition, “I am also proud of our team the ‘Atrains’ of amateur MMA fighters that participated in the USA World Championships. We have three new World Champions, four of the team members earned 2nd place and Nick received the ‘World Grand Champion’ title” said coach Appello.
