He continues, “Once the animals move on, a grazed plant immediately sheds roots to mobilize nutrients and regrow leaf. Saliva, urine, and manure fertilize the ground. Hooves aerate the soil, tromping plant materials into mulch and preparing the surface for germination sites. New species appear on previously bare ground. Existing plants grow heartier and capture more sunlight. A well-mulched soil surface captures and holds more moisture from rain and snowfall.”
