Gerald Thomas Hopkins's Newly Released "PK's Parables" Is an Absorbing Book of Vignettes and Observations from the Early Life of a Preacher's Kid
"PK's Parables" from Christian Faith Publishing author Gerald Thomas Hopkins is an engaging collection of short stories about real events and people from the author's own experience growing up as the son of a pastor (a PK, or preacher's kid), who in his lifetime served various rural and city churches, each with its own colorful cast of characters from every walk of life, all contributing to the narrative that, seen through a poignant, humorous perspective, reveals deep wisdom and serves as uncanny illustrations to certain Bible verses.
MEADVILLE, Pa., Oct. 19, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- "PK's Parables": a winning memoir of a pastor's son. "PK's Parables" is the creation of published author Gerald Thomas Hopkins, a retired ordained minister and founding pastor of the interdenominational church and Christian school, New Life Christian Fellowship, Greenville, South Carolina; he is a father and grandfather.
Hopkins shares, "Humorous but true, there were some baptismal candidates in those days who met a less fortunate fate in that old river. Remember the drop-off channel? One minister (I'm not sure it was Dad) was baptizing someone; I believe she was quite a stout lady. Anyway, the minister was standing close to the edge of the drop-off, and when he started putting her under, both baptizer and baptizee fell off into the deep water and had to swim back out. Maybe that lady just needed a little more water than the rest of us.
Just before each baptismal service, all who gathered would break out into singing, 'Shall we gather at the river . . . ?' Yes, we shall, for time and eternity.
'Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost . . .' (Jesus)."
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Gerald Thomas Hopkins's new book is a unique peek into the emotional and spiritual life of a pastor's son in the formative years of his life.
Filled with photographs, illustrations, and poetry from these influential years, Hopkins provides a rich backdrop to trace how the Spirit has moved throughout his life.
