In 1952, his family emigrated to Canada, where he grew up on a farm near Marguerite, British Columbia. At age eighteen, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy; however, two years later he left on an honorable release to rejoin the band, The Explorers, to record a single. After leaving the band, Goerlitz attended college in Kelowna and Castlegor and, years later, attended Pacific Bible College, graduating in 1977. He was then married and worked in sales, logging, and ranching before retiring. Goerlitz currently resides in Merritt, British Columbia.
Goerlitz shares, "Having decided to approach this work as based on our family history via the critters (horses, dogs, cats, etc.) that came and sometimes tragically passed through our lives. I intended this work as a prequel to what I considered my main work, The War of Words over the World, which will follow this book."
