“There’s a Tiger on My Tongue!”: a delightful read about a child who was disliked for being too talkative and loud until he realized a way to tame his tongue with the use of a brilliant technique.
“There’s a Tiger on My Tongue!” is the creation of Jennie Shea, a Child and Family Therapist. She has presented numerous trainings for parents and professionals on both the state and national level with a particular focus on the impact of trauma on lifespan development. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her family in Maryville, Tennessee and in her hometown of Oliver Springs, Tennessee.
Shea shares, “There’s a tiger on my tongue, and he is trying to get out! When we are around others, he will always yell and shout!” There’s a Tiger on My Tongue! tells the story of a young child who has problems with talking too much and interrupting others. The child has a tiger on their tongue who roars when it wants to be heard, which leads the student to have problems both at home and at school. The child realizes that he needs to learn to tame his “tiger tongue” and develops the mnemonic ‘PAWS.’ The story is designed to teach young children how to develop patience and self-control through the use of rhymes and mnemonics. There’s a Tiger on My Tongue! was developed through many years of hands-on experience with children who exhibit similar behaviors to those of the main character. Shea Raper, LPC-MHSP, NCC is a licensed therapist who has over a decade of experience working with children and their families.
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Jennie Shea’s new book is an enjoyable piece of children’s literature that is written to help children learn patience and self-control in an interesting and entertaining way.
