"Green Friday” Seeks to Display Unity Against Boko Haram Using Social Media
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) January 21, 2015 -- In the wake of atrocities committed by militant Islamic group Boko Haram, citizens of Nigeria, neighboring countries, Africa 2.0, and communities worldwide are calling for people to unite against criminalities done in the name of religion or intolerance by participating in "Green Friday." On Friday, January 23, 2015, participants are asked to display their solidarity by taking a selfie wearing the color green, and posing with the number one hand sign. Each person is then asked to share their selfie on social media using the hashtag "#GreenFriday."
"Green Friday" is a social media engagement focused on driving more awareness to the struggles of Africans, and to display a global consensus for need of support from the United States and other western powers within the region. "Government officials globally need to see that we can come together for the benefit of our Nigerian brothers and sisters. Intolerance and terrorist activities have got to be stopped everywhere," explains Mamadou Toure, Africa 2.0 Founder and Chairman. "Although Boko Haram is a relatively small group, they have become dangerously active, claiming an increasing number of innocent lives," he continues.
