Author Teresa Shields Parker Shares Secret of Extreme Weight Loss in New Book, “Sweet Change"
COLUMBIA, Missouri (PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- In the new book, “Sweet Change: True Stories of Transformation,” author Teresa Shields Parker shares her personal experience with extreme weight loss, and how it changed her life. Her 2013 weight loss memoir, “Sweet Grace: How I Lost 250 Pounds and Stopped Trying to Earn God’s Favor,” is still the #1 Christian Weight Loss memoir on Amazon, giving Parker a platform to inspire others and share her secrets.
In addition to her own insights, “Sweet Change,” includes true stories of 17 ordinary individuals on the weight loss journey. One thing all of those featured have in common is they have all had a moment of change.
“I define this as the time you realize you’ve been headed towards an unhealthy lifestyle. In order to get to where you want to go you turn around and go the other way,” Parker says. “It’s really the definition of repentance.”
A self-proclaimed sugar addict, Parker’s recurrent theme in her books is giving up processed sugar. For some featured in “Sweet Change,” it is a lifestyle of abstinence from processed sugar and for others it is learning how to greatly curtail sugar intake.
“Sugar is this supposedly innocent substance that makes everything taste better,” notes Parker. “What happens, though, is we allow highly sugar-laden foods to be our comfort. It works for a while until we need more sugar to get the same feeling. Before we know it, we have allowed it to become a stronghold in our lives.”
Parker is very aware that she used certain foods as a substitute for the comfort that only the Holy Spirit can bring. “For years the church has preached against vices such as alcohol and drugs, but for some people certain foods, such as those with processed sugar, have become a deadly stronghold.
“Overeating is the last sanctified sin of the church. With two-thirds of Americans overweight or obese, we must realize that this is an epidemic which must be stopped. Will we give up our chance to do Kingdom work because we can’t resist a cookie?”
Since “Sweet Grace” and the companion “Sweet Grace Study Guide” were published in 2013, Parker’s Facebook page is growing and now has over 27,000 followers. To help those on the weight loss journey, she formed Sweet Change Weight Loss Group where she coaches clients through weekly videos, action steps, a live monthly call and support.
“Our approach is total health — body, soul and spirit,” Parker explains. “It takes the power of others, another and the Other to help overcome any addiction or stronghold. Others are peers on the journey. Another is a coach who has been successful. And of course, the Other is the power and grace of an almighty God to lead us to victory.”
The theme of total health runs through “Sweet Change,” “Sweet Grace,” “Sweet Grace Study Guide” and Sweet Change Group. “I could not have changed my life and lost weight without God’s power which activated in my life when I gave up what I craved. When I admitted I needed His help and began walking out my journey, His grace gave me strength to go forward.”
“Sweet Change: True Stories of Transformation,” as well as “Sweet Grace: How I Lost 250 Pounds and Stopped Trying to Earn God’s Favor,” and “Sweet Grace Study Guide: Practical Action Steps to Lose Weight and Overcome Sugar Addiction” are available in paperback and Kindle format at Amazon.
