Bella, the Cancer Sniffing Dog, Was the Inspiration for the New Children's Book "WILSON & BELLA'S BIG APPLE ADVENTURE!" by Award Winning Author Susan Castriota.
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- The many readers who have delighted in the work of renowned children's book author/illustrator Susan Castriota will be pleased to learn of the release of her latest book "WILSON & BELLA'S BIG APPLE ADVENTURE!". This new fictional tale has Castriota's real-life adopted poodle Wilson going to New York City in pursuit of Bella the white Havenese dog and his long-time companion.
"WILSON & BELLA'S BIG APPLE ADVENTURE! is the tale of Wilson discovering that Bella has run off to NYC to find her fortune and fame. "She has a detective's nose and can sniff 100,000 times stronger than humans." Wilson and his four-legged friends set off on their mission, visiting the Big Apple's famous and historical sites only to find Bella has just left, leaving behind clues to her next destinations. This beautifully illustrated book starts as Wilson and friends take a train into Grand Central Station, then the fantasy begins with a jet ski ride to the Statue of Liberty. While enjoying the sites, Castriota delights the readers with fun facts and folklore about the Big Apple.
Bella gained national recognition as the dog who sniffed Castriota's breast cancer before she was diagnosed. Bella was sniffing and poking at Castriota's breast months before having her yearly mammogram. Castriota, who subsequently underwent a double mastectomy, chemo and reconstructive surgery, is recovering beautifully and is deeply grateful to Bella.
Bella's story first aired on WTAE TV, and Yahoo home page. Then off to Hollywood where she delighted the audience on the set of the Emmy award winning show The Doctors. The idea for the book came when Castriota and Bella visited NYC to make an appearance on FOX and Friends. Bella sat quietly while Castriota enlightened viewers of the super-powered senses of dogs and how Bella's sniffing ability is up to 100,000 times stronger than humans.
Because Castriota is now a breast cancer survivor, she is a passionate and enthusiastic advocate for early detection. In addition, she was invited to join the "Survivor's Circle Program" to support The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) founded by the late Evelyn Lauder of The Estee Lauder Company. Fifteen percent of the website sales of the book "WILSON & BELLA'S BIG APPLE ADVENTURE!" will be donated to BCRF.
"WILSON & BELLA'S BIG APPLE ADVENTURE!" is cleverly interwoven with the true story of the joy Bella brings to Castriota and Wilson.
