Children’s Obesity Fund Helps Fifth Grade Class Get Fit & "In Step” with Dancing Classrooms
(PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- Children’s Obesity Fund, cofounded by the Omidi brothers, is happy to sponsor the Dancing Classrooms program at Mountain Meadow Elementary School in Buckley, Washington. For the second year, the fifth grade class at Mountain Meadow will learn six dances from professional dancers of the Pacific Ballroom Dance over a ten-week period. The program concludes with a special celebration where the new dancers show off their new skills for families, school staff, and other students.
“The Children’s Obesity Fund is a big fan and ardent supporter of the programs offered by Pacific Ballroom Dance,” says Julian Omidi, charity cofounder. “Dance is a great way to have fun while also keeping fit, so we are excited to now help bring this terrific program to the children of Mountain Meadow Elementary. I’m confident the Dancing Classroom program will be a highlight of the school year for these fifth graders.”
Dancing Classrooms is a social development program that utilizes ballroom dancing as a means of changing the lives of student participants and the teachers and parents who support them. Dance is used as a tool to get the children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others thoughtfully, improve self-confidence, communicate and cooperate, and accept others even if they are different.
Mountain Meadow Elementary School (http://www.mm.whiteriver.wednet.edu) serves kindergarten through fifth grade students in Buckley, Washington (approximately 45 miles southeast of Seattle). Its mission is to ensure high levels of learning for every student preparing them for future success.
Dancing Classrooms (http://www.pacificballroom.org/dancingclassrooms) is a 10-week art and physical education program for fifth graders that teaches six ballroom dances, including the Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Merengue, Rumba, and Swing. The program encourages fitness, promotes social development, and introduces the children to different cultures. Dancing Classrooms inspires students in more than 500 schools in 19 U.S. cities. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was launched in the Greater Seattle area in 2010, as a program of Pacific Ballroom Dance. In addition to Dancing Classrooms, Pacific Ballroom Dance also offers a complete Academy and a Performing Company which all work together to uplift and inspire young people through dance.
Cofounded by Julian Omidi and Dr. Michael Omidi, the Children’s Obesity Fund (http://www.childrensobesityfund.org) hopes to help reverse the trend of rising obesity rates in America. The goal of the non-profit charity is to help people fully understand the obesity issue and its dire impacts on individuals and society as a whole -- and to use that knowledge to encourage children to grow up strong and healthy.
