InDemand Interpreting Partners with Critical Measures to Host Webinar: “Video Remote Interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Patients"
SEATTLE (PRWEB) October 17, 2017 -- InDemand Interpreting, a technology-enabled medical interpreting company, announced a webinar: “Video Remote Interpreting for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Patients: Finding Balance in the Midst of Controversy.” This webinar is hosted in partnership with Critical Measures, a national management consulting and training organization specializing in cross-cultural healthcare and the law of language access.
InDemand Interpreting immediately connects healthcare professionals to medically qualified interpreters 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in more than 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL) and Certified Deaf Interpreters (CDIs). Video remote interpreting (VRI) technology enables clinicians to provide greater language access for limited English proficient (LEP), Deaf and hard of hearing (HOH) patients, improving overall patient care across the care continuum.
This webinar will explore why VRI has been such a controversial topic for Deaf and HOH patients and what is being done to strike a balance in the midst of the controversy. The panel will feature a Certified Deaf Interpreter who will discuss the Deaf patient experience and why there is a distrust associated with VRI. The discussion will also briefly cover the regulations and laws that protect Deaf and HOH patients and the common pitfalls for providers. Additionally, the webinar will examine VRI from the provider side and finish by taking a deep dive into InDemand Interpreting’s approach and best practices to ensure Deaf and HOH patients are provided the means to participate in their own healthcare. Panelists will address the following critical issues:
- Why are Deaf and HOH patients so opposed to VRI?
- What language access rights do Deaf and HOH patients have under the ADA and new Section 1557 changes to the Affordable Care Act?
- What are common pitfalls that providers fall into when attempting to provide language access to Deaf and HOH patients?
- Are there any regulations or guidelines for the use of VRI with Deaf or HOH patients?
- What can be done to improve providers’ level of preparedness to treat Deaf and HOH patients?
- What modality mix for language services should health systems adopt?
- What are the pros and cons of the various modalities?
- What are emerging best practices for providing language access to Deaf and HOH patients?
- What is InDemand doing to specifically meet these challenges?
- Does InDemand VRI meet the new ACA regulations?
- What are the benefits of using CDIs?
