Categorization is a common pursuit in data analysis. Its goal is to discover largely homogenized structures in data using supervised or unsupervised ways of learning. The discovery of these structures can be learned when the data generating process is stationary over space.

• How effective natural language processing can be in exposing these structures
• How critical a geographic perspective is when analyzing data over space

About Richard Heimann
Richard focuses on advanced spatial analytics, big data and cloud computing. He is currently supporting special programs at DARPA in Arlington VA. In addition, Mr. Heimann is currently an adjunct faculty at UMBC teaching Spatial Social Science and Demographic Inquiry and an instructor of Human Terrain Analysis at George Mason University. He recently supported the 82nd Airborne Division in Regional Command South as a quantitative assessments analyst.
