'A Star is Born' Rings True to John Michael Paz as Philanthropist is Asked to Join Philly Film Society
Local philanthropist and new member of the Philly Film Society, John Michael Paz, attended the private premiere of "A Star is Born" alongside Bradley Cooper and other celebrities at the Prince Theater. Paz is hopeful that the event will be the launch of the Philly film movement in America.
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Jenkintown, Pennsylvania native -- and now bona fide movie director -- Bradley Cooper recently returned to the region for the invite-only debut of "A Star is Born." A recent addition to the Philly Film Society and local philanthropist, John Michael Paz, left the premier with more than a glowing review, he left with a reenergized hope in the Philadelphia movie scene.
The movie, which is Cooper's first feature-length foray into directing, also stars Lady Gaga, Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and Dave Chappelle. The plot of the romantic drama centers around Cooper discovering Lady Gaga and the film itself is a modernized adaption of the 1937 original. The September 12th, 2018, private screening was held at the Prince Theater, which is a landmark movie house that sits just off Broad Street along Chestnut Street in the shadow of City Hall.
According to Paz, Cooper's choice to hold the event at the Prince Theater was pivotal saying, "A Star is Born's premiere brought a plethora of A-List celebrities to Philadelphia. It's my sincere hope that the more stars learn about the great film history of Philadelphia, the more they will be enticed to shoot and promote their movies in the area."

As someone who is in the position to help, Paz is adamant about getting more involved whenever possible. This mindset will be employed as he gets to know film-industry operations that could bring more business to the City of Brotherly Love.
- Red Tape: As the former president of an international business, John Michael Paz knows how difficult it can be to navigate corporate red tape. As he continues to explore ways to increase production efforts with the city, Paz will also work toward supporting the film society's stated mission of creating "opportunities for diverse communities to experience film through initiatives that inspire, educate, challenge, and entertain."
