NEW YORK, Feb. 24, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- In honor of National Reading Month this March, DonorsChoose is launching its third annual #FillEveryShelf campaign from March 2-6, 2020, matching donations to help teachers in need of books for their classrooms. The matching campaign is expected to generate over $1 million in donations to help teachers and school librarians expand their classroom libraries.
Beginning at 7am EST on Monday, March 2, donors can visit http://www.donorschoose.org to see eligible book projects. When donors give to these requests, their donation will be automatically doubled by The Ned and Nathalie Fund and a generous group of anonymous donors.
"An expansive, diverse classroom library is a priceless resource for any teacher," said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose and a former high school teacher. "We're grateful to our generous community for supporting our #FillEveryShelf campaign this year, so that a new generation of students can fall in love with reading."
DonorsChoose is a nonprofit crowdfunding platform where public school teachers request the resources and experiences they need for their students, and donors from across the country donate to the projects that inspire them. On DonorsChoose in 2019, donors fully funded over 52,000 book requests from 41,000 teachers, totaling $24 million. Books are one of the most commonly requested classroom resources on DonorsChoose; there are currently over 5,000 requests for books live on the site seeking funding.
Last year, in one day the #FillEveryShelf campaign raised $430,000 to help fully fund over 3,400 requests for books. This is the first year that that #FillEveryShelf campaign will run for five days.
