WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Nov. 24, 2018 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Famous actor Laurence Fishburne is set to host a new segment on "Information Matrix," which will be about protecting eroding shorelines. As the climate is changing, eroding shorelines become an even more important issue to address.
Shoreline erosion has a number of different causes, and the most significant force is also the subtlest. The lapping of ripples helps loosen the saturated soils and pulls the soil particles apart below the surface of the water. Causes of erosion include wave action, ice, rain, winds, runoff, and loss of vegetation and trees in the area. The erosion occurs below the water level, where it often goes unnoticed until it is exposed.
Shorelines serve as an important area and provide a rich and active habitat for wildlife and fish. The shoreline provides structural integrity to the edge of the water as well. Erosion is natural and not necessarily harmful, but it can affect natural resources and ecosystems and cause property loss, making it something that needs to be dealt with. However, some shoreline erosion methods can cause more harm and increase the structural damage.
Stabilization methods to protect eroding shorelines include imitating nature and using the natural vegetation that can be found at the shoreline to help strength its integrity. Slopes should be kept gentle and gradual, in order to absorb the energy of the waves. An eroded slope will allow the waves to crash into the shore, dramatically increasing the erosion. There needs to be a variety of materials to help create not only an eye pleasing shoreline, but one that will be resilient. These concepts will be addressed with specialists on the upcoming episode.
"Information Matrix" is educational programming with a wide variety of topics, hosted by an award-winning team.
