PHOENIX, July 13, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Arizona's largest backpack and school supply giveaway event, Phoenix Tools 4 School, is returning to South Mountain Community College (7050 S. 24th Street) on Saturday, July 24 from 7 to 9 a.m.
The event is an effort between the HeroZona Foundation, APS, the Arizona Diamondbacks, UPS, Crescent Crown and more community partners to support local families with the costs associated with returning to school, by providing free school supplies. During the event participants will also have access to the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines for free, through the OneCommunity Initiative.
"Now that in-person learning has returned, we want to make sure that families in underserved communities have everything they need to be successful this upcoming school year," said Alan "AP" Powell, Chairman of AP & Associates – Strategic Alliances, U.S. Army Desert-Storm Veteran, and founder of HeroZona. "This is the ninth year we've hosted the event, and we will continue to do so as long as the need persists."
In just eight years, the Phoenix Tools 4 School annual event has impacted more than 50,000 students and family members by providing them with supplies needed for their education, such as bookbags, notebooks, writing utensils and more. Pre-coronavirus, the Tools 4 School event also hosted a carnival and workshops from Maricopa Community Colleges and Arizona State University (ASU) for 7th and 8th grade students to prepare them on their path to higher education.
The event is open to the public and expected to draw thousands of families. Tools 4 School is open to all students kindergarten through 8th grade. Supplies are limited, and backpacks will be distributed on a first come first serve basis while supplies last. People can preregister at HeroZona.org. Attendees are encouraged to show up early and students must be present to receive their backpack and supplies.
This year's event is supported by Maricopa Community Colleges, SRP, ASU, Phoenix Suns, Dollar Days, Roosevelt School District #66, EPCOR, 101.1 The Bounce, Mega 104.3, 101.9 Campesina, Travis L. Williams American Legion Post 65, Andrew and Amy Cohn, HMS Host, Van Chevrolet, Forty-Eight Foundation, Phoenix Police Department, Phoenix Fire Department, City of Phoenix, District 8 Vice Mayor Carlos Garcia, and Equality Health Foundation.
