"Tech Bettys" pilot script is now a Second Rounder in the Austin Film Festival Comedy Teleplay Pilot Competition!
What was once an award-winning comedy web series by, for, and about women in tech, "Tech Bettys", is now scripted for a half-hour TV series!
NEW YORK, Oct. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- GOODLY ROTTEN APPLE PRODUCTIONS LLC (GRAP) announces that the award-winning web series, TECH BETTYS starring Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle nominee and real-life tech worker Mary McGloin (The Luring) and Annie Hartkemeyer (Looking for the Jackalope) is now a half-hour television comedy pilot script!
TECH BETTYS Pilot Script is a Second Rounder in the Comedy Teleplay Pilot Competition at the AUSTIN FILM FESTIVAL Oct 21-28th in Austin, Texas!
TECH BETTYS is the brainchild of Mary McGloin and Amanda Van Nostrand and their collective experience working in male dominated tech startups IRL. Inspired by actual events, you'll see everything you've heard about startup culture is likely true. McGloin serves as creator, series lead, showrunner, and executive producer. She was joined by an all female crew, including award winning director Kathleen Davison of Painted Saint Entertainment (PSE) (Primrose Lane, Effloresce) in shooting the proof-of-concept webisodes and they have gone around the world to 36 festivals, been nominated for 30 awards and won 21 awards including:
Best of Fest at Miami Web Fest 2021
Best Ensemble Cast at Baltimore Next Media Web Fest and Pure Magic International Film Festival
Best Writer - Web/TV Gold at Queen Palm International Film Festival
along with Best Web Series at Circle City Film Festival, Festival Angaelica among other awards.

McGloin has been developing the half-hour version of the series, re-working and re-writing with the help of her mentor, veteran showrunner, Jerry Perzigian, who's vetted the first three scripts, including the pilot script which was a Maven Fellowship Semi Finalist with Stowe Story Labs, which McGloin participated in this June, and an Official Selection in the Catalyst Story Institute, which McGloin participated in this September/Oct. She plans to complete the first season and her goal is to get funded and/or partnered with a production company to produce the whole first season, ideally with the cast of the proof-of-concept on board!
Set in New York City's "Silicon Alley," fiery-feminist QA-Engineer Cass (McGloin) and millenial Office Manager Bailey (Hartkemeyer) form an alliance to survive stealth mode startup, VD-ME.com (checkout the transmedia site), where rampant waste and oblivious sexism are the norm for the company's first female employees.
The proof-of-concept webisodes were produced by GRAP with PSE, and also stars David Fierro (The Knick, Maniac, Red Oaks), Tom Ashton (The Blacklist, God Friended Me), Stephen James Anthony (The Loudest Voice, Billions, Gotham), Ben Fine (Fucking Adults), Carson Lee (The Blacklist), Andrew Hsu (Bull), and Kevin Hurley (Dead North).
Creator Mary McGloin will be in attendance at the festival and pitching the show. She says, "Tech Bettys is near and dear to my heart. In addition to being an actress/writer/producer, I have worked many years in tech as a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer. I have worked in many startups, often being the only woman and sometimes the only QA. I have worked in Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and New York and I am quite familiar with startup culture. The characters are all fragments of and collages of different people Amanda and I have worked with over the years and the situations are based on real experiences. While this story is about the women, focusing on the experiences of Cass (the QA Engineer) and Bailey (the Office Manager), all of the characters come across as real people over stereotypes. Where Cass serves as our lead, and tech woman, Bailey is our window into the world for people who aren't in tech. While you don't see all the characters in these proof-of-concept episodes, it will leave you wanting more. It is my sincere hope that we can produce the whole half-hour series, as so much fun lies ahead."
McGloin is currently seeking funding and collaboration for TECH BETTYS. Her production company, GOODLY ROTTEN APPLE PRODUCTIONS LLC is a fiscally sponsored project of Fractured Atlas. It is also a critically acclaimed theatre and film production company; a place for artists to collaborate and do what we're meant to do- follow our higher calling: Art.
